THEATRE PLAYS

For Better World has been entertaining children and adults with donated theatre plays for many years. All plays have been performed around the New Year and many other special occasions of the organizations that the plays have been performed for.

MUSIC

“Where words fail, music speaks.” – Hans Christian Andersen

The association helped the Home for Youth Maribor (Mladinski dom) in the school years 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09 by organizing free lessons for playing an instrument. It was carried out by a member of the associations, Ms. Amadeja Turnšek, a music teacher who visited the home two times per week for one school hour.

BOOKS

The association has organized support for many organizations that offer help to people in the shape of donated educational book material.

INTERGENERATIONAL SOCIALISING AND WORKSHOPS

For Better World has been helping and cooperating with nursing homes free of charge together with Intergenerational Society Drava, Maribor for many years. Members Tatjana Juhart and Danica Gnilšek organize conversational hours in the Tezno Elderly Home in Maribor, Danica Vogrinec Nursing Home (Tabor), Idila Nursing Home, and in the library of Slovenska Bistrica.

Tatjana Juhart was nominated for the volunteer of the year 2006 in Tezno Elderly Home in Maribor.

INDIVIDUAL AND LEARNING AID

Members of the association organize different forms of help in cooperation with individuals and institutions. So far, we have helped in the following ways: offering learning aid to two children in the Maternity Home of Maribor, collecting clothes and preparation of home-made treats for the Homeless Shelter in Maribor, and helping the elderly in their homes.

In July 2009, the association For Better World carried out a project to help schools in India. We invited various publishers and language schools to participate. Gustav Šilih primary school from Maribor was also included in the project, and it contributed by collecting symbolic contributions and children’s crafts. We have donated school books and textbooks for learning English to two schools in India.

We donated our theatre plays to four Indian primary schools, where we entertained children from underprivileged backgrounds. In 2014 we provided and arranged a school playground in one of the primary schools.

The association has visited and donated educational theatre plays to the following schools in England: Court Farm Primary School, Warren Farm Primary School and High School Birmingham. Besides that, our member Katja Bernard has been voluntarily helping children with special needs in the Camphill Community, Thornbury for 4 months.

In 2005 and 2006, members of the association For Better World have been financing educational projects for ten primary schools in Serbia. Educational workshops and theatre plays lasted three to five days.

In 2009, For Better World fully financed and organized a project “Helping Your Neighbour!” in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project presented the importance of developing values of a person in education. In the period of a three-day program, we have carried our 6 educational theatre plays and 30 workshops in 4 primary schools.

In 2014, we helped to collect basic necessities for the residents of flooded areas in Doboj and Bijeljina in Bosnia. We have delivered two packages, weighing 3 tons together, in 2 expeditions directly to the people living in those areas.
